the preparation of
what plan?
of course, things never happen according to the plan..
first, justin ended up forgetting to buy the decorations wednesday night. so... we have no decorations. too busy with amy or something. i will not get into the details here, mostly because i don't know them.
now, we had to improvise. well. it wasn't too big of a compromise, because a bunch of us, including aaron, were going to go to summerfest on friday. that gives amy, who did NOT go to summerfest, a chance to go out and buy decorations friday night. problem solved! just as long as she doesn't forget as well. good thing she didn't
waterloo
ok, so friday night we spent at summerfest, which was really fun in itself. danced the night away, so to speak. hehe, and we slept over in waterloo that night too. it was kinda too late to drive back to toronto. at this point the whole plan was trusted with amy and her getting decorations. but we didn't quite care at that point.
great preparation huh?
so that night we slept quite late: around 3 or so. aaron toughtfully brought a sleeping bag with him. (actually he just forgot to take it out of his trunk from the rafting trip one week ago) thought he was really smart. he's like "haha, i have a sleeping bag". too bad it backfired on him. ken and kelly's mom was very nice, gave coral a mattress and a blanket, and i got the couch and a blanket. aaron got his sleeping bag, and the hard floor. haha.. jacky, of course, got the sofa bed (?) in ken's room. heh. poor aaron.
anyway, the point of that was that we slept pretty late, and had to get up relatively early to get to canada's wonderland on time tomorrow. getting to sleep late was an integral part of the plan. as you shall soon see.
wonderland
we arrived at wonderland one and a half hours late. so much for that. oh, and on the way there, there was a big spill in aaron's car. had something to do with 20 piece chicken mcnuggets, a right turn, a shallow cup holder, and a large mcdonalds coke. sorry aaron :P. at least everyone else was late as well, with the exception of dave, who had to wait at the front gates for an hour and a half. oops!
after we arrived at wonderland, we waited another 15 to 20 minutes for te rest of the party to show up. then, finally, we go in. we had a lot of fun in there that day. it's much better than the pne back in vancouver.i won't talk about the individual rides that we went on because, first, it doesn't pertain to the topic at hand (aaron's bday party), and second, i don't remember all their names.
one thing i will mention though, is the water rides. we were soaked, head to toe, not one square inch of the body spared. that was fun. for me at least, because luckily, i was wearing this super thin shirt that didn't hold much water, so i dried off faster than the rest of them. haha. this also contributes to our supposed weariness.
"tired"
alright. now, we had little sleep last night, after a tiring dance-a-thon at summerfest. then we walked the whole afternoon at wonderland and got all soaked and cold. i guess it's time to rest and go home to relax the rest of the weekend away. after all, it's been a prety eventful 2 days already. at least that's what we told aaron (er, coral told aaron? i'm not sure, because the bunch of us left early without telling aaron. for the sake of this write-up, let's say coral really did tell him that).
the bunch of us left wonderland eaerly to go to aaron's house to decorate it, while coral kept aaron at wonderland a little longer. leter, i learned that they took a ride on the teacups? or something like that. yeah. great. thanks. that really stalls for a long time huh. anyways, it turns out that that was enough time for us to setup. the decorations weren't too elaborate.
setting up
we were pressed for time, and we needed to set everything up before aaron got home. so dave and i, in sunny's car start blowing balloons up en route to aaron's. we thought it was a good idea at the time. since we got time, might as well use it wisely. so dave and i blew up roughly 16 to 20 balloons on the way there. practically filled the whole backseat up, covering the rear window. hehe. the balloons also had a tendency to float to the front, causing sunny some trouble. doh, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. there was another problem as well. getting the balloons from the car to aaron's house efficiently.. when we arrived, we each grabbed 6 to 7 balloons by the tie, and stumbled our way across the driveway to the house. dropped a few, but no biggy, they didn't pop or anything. then sunny took his car and drove off to park at a faraway spot.
at aaron's basement (where we were going to surprise him) we blew the rest of the balloons up, taped some to the cieling walls what not. had a happy birthday banner taped across the ciealing, and streamers surrounding the area behind The Door. see? not very elaborate, but effective. there. all done.
yeah right. all of a sudden, out of nowhere, ken suggests that we blow up some condoms too, along with the balloons, and promptly takes a box of condoms out of his bag. a little too eager prehaps? but ah well. doesn't matter to me, as long as i don't have to blow them up. i used the excuse that i blew up a lot of the balloons in the car already, so someone else should blow the condoms up.
dont forget the food
this was my responsibility. delegated to me by, of course, coral. it just so happens that on the stub of the wonderland tickets was a 2 for 1 coupon for pizza pizza. great! but most of the wonderland ticket stubs were soaked. mine was ok, i kept it safe, but it was difficult to scrounge up another one that was relatively legible, and not too soggy. so we ordered 4 pizzas. i was supposed to do the ordering, but instead i gave the coupons to aaron's brother and told him to order 4 pizzas. heh. i think some other people helped too, by deciding which pizzas to get. for example, sunny yelled out, "no veggies! on any of them ok?"
of course, 4 pizzas was not gonna be enough for 20 odd people, so i was supposed to order kfc too. fortunately, justin (who didn't go to wonderland with us because his uncle was hosting a bbq) brought a tray full of assorted bbqed meat leftover from his bbq. problem solved. yay!
so although food was my responsibity, i didn't do much to help with it. hehe. there. i confessed. but everybody knows i'm lazy already so that's ok. got the job done at least.
the call
so we were done decorating finally. now we were just fooling around in aaron's basement, waiting for a sign that we should get ready. but we weren't just gonna sit there and wait were we? no! we broke out the pool cues, and had a few games of pool, threw some darts (tried very hard not to hit the wall), turned on the snes, set up a game of mahjong, hit each other with balloons (i think we popped a few of them, like around 6 or so, oh well), chatted, etc. while blasting loud music. aaron's basement was brimming with stuff to entertain us.
then finally, coral called, and siad, we are leaving wonderland now. be there in 30 minutes. or something to that effect. time to settle down and take our places.
next - the execution of (forget it. i can't find a picture of aaron in makeup and that was what i was waiting for before writing this thing. and now i forgot most of the details. return)
