Secret of the Force

Secret of the Force is the name of the new Star Wars campaign I'm running for my players. It takes place in and around the first movie, A New Hope. The PC's are mostly Rebels who find themselves invovled in a mission to take the planet Tyr and it's valuable ore refineries.

The Rebels are incapable of doing so on their own, so Rebel Command sends the PC's to the remote planet Trondar to enlist the aid of the Trond, a barbarian tribe who long ago promised to Bail Organa that should they ever be needed, they'd be ready. To accomplish this, they must take a young woman, Lady Shae Templar-Organa, to the remote planet to reunite her with her estranged father, Lord Yopa Templar, leader of the Trond.

If successful, their mission will have only begun. Then they must use information provided by the rogue Imperial Governor Karriag to infiltrate and disable Tyr's defenses in preperation for the invasion.

Jairen Tal

"Wrong! (WHACK!) Do it again!"

Jairen Tal is the venerable teacher of Mozen Core. When their sanctuary world, Daine, is invaded by Bounty Hunters, they flee to Alderaan in a commandeered Bounty Hunter ship. Unfortunately, their flight goes off course and takes them to Tyr, where they are captured by Captain Stennex and turned over to Lord Karriag. Karriag orders their termination, but they are rescued during the execution, along with the bounty hunter Kenda Shar'Endra, by Marik Rizor, along with Val and Sal Tarth.

They fled to Alderaan, but Jairen knew it was too late. She placed the young Lady Shae under the protection of her pupil Mozen and cryptically instructed him to travel to Yavin with her at all costs. He managed to escape Alderaan as a large shadowy object entered orbit. She stayed behind and perished in the destruction.

Lord Karriag

Lord Karriag is the Imperial Governor of Tyr and administrator of the Ore Refinery there. Lord Karriag is a corrupt official. He rules his world with an iron fist, stripping it of all resources and enslaving its peoples. He has reduced a once beautiful world to ash, acid rain, and permanent brown overcast skies.

It was his refineries that produced the raw material necessary to build the Death Star. As such, it was from his refinery that secret plans for this weapon were beamed to Princess Leia Organa's ship, the Tantive IV. Lord Karriag hired Kenda Shar'Endra to capture the rogue agent and return him. She did so, but he took a liking to her and requested she join his harem. When she refused, he ordered her imprisonment.

The next day, the scheduled executions of Jairen Tal, Mozen Core, and the Rebel Spy were disrupted by a Rebel attack, during which he was captured and used as a hostage during the escape. When Captain Stennex, commander of the nearest Star Destroyer, refused to bargain for his release, Karriag disabled the Star Destroyer to save his own life and ensure the escape of the Rebels.

Karriag was kept by the Rebels who planned on releasing him for a large fee that he was willing to pay. So the rebels kept him a secret on their ship while on Alderaan. During their escape from the destruction of Alderaan, Karriag witnessed the destructive power of the Death Star, a weapon he helped create.

This event had a very powerful impact on Karriag. When they arrived at Yavin, the Rebels decided to turn him over to their superiors. In exchange for clemency, Karriag offered his assistance in procuring the Ore Refineries on Tyr for use by the Rebellion. To do so, however, would require an army the Rebel Alliance was, at that time, unable to provide. A small band of Rebels were therefore sent to the remote world of Trondar to secure the aid of the Trond, a barbarian tribe pledged to aid Bail Organa in a time of need.

Captain Stennex

"Really.."

Captain Stennex is a practical man. He has always disliked Lord Karriag and his extravagances, so when the opportunity came to eliminate Karriag, he took it. Karriag survived, however, and has pledged to kill Stennex at all costs.

Captain Stennex is in command of the Star Destroyer Tyrranic in the Tyr system.

Lady Shae Organa-Templar

"Sigh, I suppose it will HAVE to do."

Lady Shae Organa-Templar is the product of a political marriage between Lady Karen Organa, neice of Bail and cousin of Leia, and Lord Yopa Templar, Warlord and leader of the barbarian Trond. She is the living reminder of Yopa's pledge of fealty to Bail Organa after Organa helped bring peace to the planet of Trondar.

Lady Shae was raised in royal luxury on Alderaan by her mother. She never knew her father, who remained on Trondar where communication was spotty at best. She is spoiled and snotty and easily annoyed. She disdains commoners and would be lost without her valet droid, NE-101.

NE-101

NE-101 is the valet droid belonging to Lady Shae Templar-Organa. As such, he is constantly fauning over her, attending her every need, and worrying about her safety.

Loki

"Hmm.. I suppose you have a point."

When the the Rebel Band finally reached Trondar, they had to pack it overland from the one small settlement to the mountainous home of the Trond. Once there, they were confronted by a terrible discovery. Lord Yopa had died several months before in a battle with the Deros, the subterranean enemy of the Trond. Loki was now in charge.

Loki is a thin, gaunt man. He is sneaky and powerhungry and willing to do anything to keep his power. He started the war with the Deros as an excuse to depose Lord Yopa. Since taking control, he has ceased trade with the planetary settlement and has begun raiding them to take what he needs by force. He disdains outsiders and offworlders.

Deros

"Grungi, Scragg Lumlox!"

Deros are the subterranean inhabitants of Trondar. They are squat with big noses and thick fingers. They mine the mountains of Trondar for precious metals and jewels which they trade with surface dwellers for food, and other supplies. Their enemies are the Trond because in times past, the Trond had nothing to trade and would therefore attack the Deros to take what they wanted.

16 years ago, however, Bail Organa negotiated a peace between the Trond and the Deros. The Trond now act as middlemen between the settlement and the Deros. This arrangement was amenable until recently when Loki manipulated events to start a war between the Deros and the Trond. Old enmities resurfaced and fighting began anew.

King Otyugh

"LIES! Deceptive Surface-Dweller Lies!"

King Otyugh is the venerable leader of the Deros. He is a wise old Dero and is at least 400 years old. He is slow to anger, but once enraged very hard to calm down. He also can really hold a grudge. He holds the Trond responsible for atrocities commited by their ancestors 200 years ago or more. To the Trond, it is ancient history, to Otyugh, it is recent memory.

Lord Yopa Templar

Lord Yopa Templar is the rightful ruler of the Trond. He is a giant of a man with arms the size of tree trunks. His head is bald and he sports long white hair and a beard. He is quick to anger and is very temperamental. It was no small task for Bail Organa to negotiate a peace between the Deros and the Trond, especially with Yopa at the helm.

Lord Yopa has been captured by the Deros thanks to Loki's duplicity. Loki has managed to keep Lord Yopa's capture a secret and has fostered the belief among the tribe that Yopa is dead. Yopa is still unaware of Loki's traitorous duplicity as he sits in a Dero dungeon cell deep in the heart of the Trondarian Mountains. Were he to be freed and made aware of Loki's deeds, he would surely seethe with rage and kill Loki before reclaiming the leadership of the tribe.

Only Lord Yopa has the respect and fealty of the other Barbarian tribes of Trondar. Only if he is freed does the Rebellion stand a chance of raising an army capable of capturing Tyr.
